Speed Secrets 3: Inner Speed Secrets
Posted by kristopher_d on 2009/1/26 7:20:00 (2 reads)

Speed Secrets 3: Inner Speed Secrets marks a departure from Ross Bentley's earlier works on the topic of performance driving. Speed Secrets and More Speed Secrets focused on the down and dirty technique of successfully driving cars at speed. This third installment in the series, however, elevates the art and science of driving to an intellectual level. Better organized and written than Speed Secrets 2, Speed Secrets 3 returns to the logical layout, easy to read style, and liberal use of visual aids that makes the original such wonderful tool. In many ways this is the best book in the series simply because it's lessons may be applied beyond the track, and even beyond the car.

Haunted Highway Hustle III - Retrospective
Posted by kristopher_d on 2009/1/12 2:32:14 (1 reads)

On the plus side, at least it wasn't raining. Rain always makes an adventure like this more interesting. Of course, being stubborn, the lack of rain meant the windows and sunroof were open, the tips of my ears and nose were tingling from the cold. That's okay though; all the way to our rendezvous point I had the heater blowing and those heated seats I used to think were so silly kept my backside comfortable. It's funny how little we value something until we experience the benefits for our selves. But more on that some other time. That morning the fog was piled high, though light and almost fluffy. Just enough to justify headlights and fog lights to be certain oncoming drivers saw me, but not enough to warrant slowing down.

High Point Way - Preston - WA - USA
Posted by kristopher_d on 2009/1/9 9:30:00 (3 reads)

Connecting Interstate 90's Preston and Rattle Snake Lake exits is a wonderfully twisted road named High Point Way. The Preston end, with its wide shoulders and generally straight course pralleling the freeway is awfully tame. Luckily for us, thats the shortest bit. The Rattle Snake Lake end twists and turns like a serpent in convulsions. In between there are a few good corners with plenty of room to adjust for minor miscalculations. Next time you're in the area, take a break from the Super Highway and give this wonderful road a try.

Burpee Hill, Concrete, WA, USA

Winding away from the backside of Concrete, WA is one of the most technically challenging stretches of road in the Puget Sound basin. Burpee Hill starts out exciting and grows in intensity as you gain altitude. Beginning with a moderate rise, and an easy right hand sweeper, the road quickly returns left before hiding the next right hander behind a brief leveling of the road. An enthusiastic driver with a capable car will need to brake for the pronounced right-hander. While several more of these "sneaky" corners hide on the hill, your biggest challenge will likely come in the form of debris.
